Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Northeastern State

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern State University Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to undefeated Northeastern State Saturday afternoon at Hal Bodon Field.

The RiverHawks (8-0, 1-0 MIAA) led Southern (2-3-1, 0-1-0 MIAA) in shots, 11-2, shots on goal, 7-1, and corner kicks, 7-0. In the first 45 minutes, Northeastern State took five shots, three SOG, but sophomore Julia Liberty fended off all three shots to send the Lions into halftime tied at 0-0.

The RiverHawks scored in the 74th minute when Mariah Nicolet sent a cross into the box and it was deflected into the upper right for the lone goal.

Freshmen Callie Degani and Brianna Smith both recorded a shot each for the Lions while Liberty played all 90 minutes in the net recording six saves while facing 11 shots.

Up next for Southern is a date with Missouri Western on September 29th at 6 p.m. at Hal Bodon Field.
