Allendale, Mich. - Missouri Southern junior
Taylor Lansford climbed 26 spots after the second round of the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional at The Meadows at Grand Valley State on Tuesday afternoon.
Lansford who started out in a tie for 39th posted a 1-under 35 on his final nine holes of the day after starting on the back nine with a 2-over 37. He birdied the 526 yard par 5 fourth hole and closed out his day with a birdie on the 510 yard par 5 ninth and finished in an eight way tie for 13th.
"Taylor putted well today. 28 total puts with no three puts and although birdies have been tough to come by here he birdied the two par-5s on the front nine today," said head coach
Mike Wheeler about Lansford's second round performance. "His ball striking is very good and with his putter warming up we both are excited about the final round tomorrow".
Tenth ranked Central Missouri moved up two spots into first place in the team standings while first day leader 48th ranked Tiffin University dropped three spots into fourth. Washburn moved up four spots into fifth place while 27th ranked Central Oklahoma dropped a spot into seventh and Lindenwood dropped two spots into 11th.
James Inman of Bellarmine and Zack James of Southeastern Oklahoma State both moved up two spots into a three way tie for the individual crown at 1-under while Taylor Supak of the University of Illinois-Springfield moved up four spots into the tie for first. Travis Mays of Central Missouri moved up seven spots into fourth place with a second round even par 71.Â
For the final round Lansford will start on the back nine again with a tee time of 8:35 a.m. and will be paired with Kelton Schmitz of Minnesota State-Mankato and Jake Duvall of Southwestern Oklahoma State.
