Prince leads four in double-figures as Lions win 103-95 at Washburn

Topeka, Kan. -- Taevaunn Prince picked up his eighth 30-point performance of the season as the Missouri Southern men's basketball team won its third in a row with a 103-95 defeat of Washburn inside Lee Arena tonight.

Southern (14-9, 11-6 MIAA) was led by Prince's perfect performance as he went 10-10 from the field, 2-2 from long-range and 10-10 from the free-throw line, scoring 32 points and adding nine rebounds and six assists. He also moved up the all-time scoring list at MSSU as he now has 1,129 points and is in 14th place all by him self in MSSU career history.

Bruce Marshall had a career-high 22 points, as well, going 8-11 from the field and 2-4 from long range with a 4-4 performance at the charity stripe. He added six rebounds and three blocks. Austin Wright went 5-10 from three-point land as he scored 19 and Charlie Brown added ten points of his own.

Washburn (12-9, 8-8 MIAA) was led by Brady Skeens as he had 20 points and 22 rebounds. Javion Blake and Christian Ulsaker scored 20 each, while Randall Smith dished out 16 assists.

A pair of free throws from the Ichabods' Robert Christopher with 13:08 left gave Washburn a 21-18 lead, but the Lions then went on a 13-2 run to go up 31-21 after a three from Wright with 9:37 to go in the first half. The Southern lead reached 11 after a three from Marshall with 4:53 to go and the Lions took a 49-39 lead into the locker room at the break.

Washburn chipped away at the Lions' lead in the second half, cutting the advantage to just four (53-49) with 17:20 to go, but a layup from Isaac Kreuer with 14:13 to go gave Southern a 12-point lead (68-56). The Lions led by 12 one more time, but Washburn then tied the game at 74 with 8:45 to go after a dunk from Skeens.

Southern, however, would never relinquish the lead and the Lions led by as many as 11 late after a pair of free throws from Marshall with 20 seconds to go.

The Lions shot 56 percent from the field, 46 percent from long-range and 91 percent from the free-throw line.

Southern will be back in action on Thursday night as the Lions will play host to Nebraska-Kearney. Tip off from Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is slated for 7:30 pm.
