Joplin, Mo. – A 12-4 run late in the second half, lifted visiting Arkansas Tech over the Missouri Southern men's basketball team 103-92 tonight inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Southern (8-3, 4-0 MIAA) had five players score in double-figures led by 21 points from
CJ Carr.
JJ Cratit had 18 points, while
Elyjah Clark scored 17 with five three pointers.
Lawrence Brown scored 14 and added 10 rebounds, while
LJ Ross added ten points.
Tech (5-2, 2-2 GAC) was led by 32 points from Alex Brown on 14-20 shooting from the field and 4-8 from long-range.
Both teams traded baskets for most of the first half, with Tech leading by as many as five and the Lions largest lead being just two. A three from
Parker Jennings with 2:16 to go in the half gave the Lions a 43-41 lead and a three from Clark gave the Lions their largest lead of the half at 46-43 with just under a minute to go.
A three pointer, however, from Tech's Trevin Woods gave the Wonder Boys a 48-46 lead at the break.
A jumper from Cratit with 18:10 left in the second half cut the ATU lead to just two at 55-53 and three's from Clark and Carr the next two trips down gave the Lions a 61-59 lead with 16:33 left.
Tech led by as many as seven (74-67) with 10:55 left and led by three (76-73) after a jumper from Carr with 8:55 left. The ATU lead reached 12 (94-82) with 2:49 left and led by as many as 15 (99-84) late.
The Lions had a 38-28 advantage in the paint and scored 21 second-chance points as they had a 18-7 advantage on the offensive boards.
The 103 points was the first time the Lions have given up 100 points at home since Jan 31, 2009 when then 9th ranked Southwest Baptist defeated the Lions 102-95.
Southern will be back in action on December 31 as the Lions play host to Oklahoma Wesleyan in non-conference action. Tip off is slated for 3 pm.
