Rolla, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country programs swept the Jackling Jocks Invite today as the Lions competed on the campus of Missouri S&T.
The Southern men swept the meet, the second time this year to do so. This is the fifth time the men have won the event in the last six years. This is the third year in a row the Southern women have won the event.
On the men's side,
Cody Berry was the individual winner, traversing the 8k course in a time of 25:19.46.
Jared Haltom was third (an individual running unattached was second) in a time of 25:39.15.
Tyler Rush (25:39.49) was fourth, while
Mike Shanahan (25:39.80) placed fifth and
Nickson Kiptoo (25:40.68) was sixth.
Ryan Drendel placed 23rd in a time of 27:01.69, while
Luke Johnson was 26th in a time of 27:07.46.
Josh Webb (28:04.57) and
James Tupper (28:05.97) placed 51st and 52nd, respectively, while
Luis Suaste was 56th.
The Lions as a team scored just 15 points to take the title. Central Missouri was second with 69 points, while Truman, Missouri S&T, Drury, McKendree, and Quincy rounded out the men's team scores.
On the women's side,
Christian Provence was second overall, turning in a time of 22:14.50.
Emily Harris (22:29.68) and
Cynthia Torres (22:43.15) placed 5th and 6th, respectively, while
Sarah Usher (23:19.81) and
Shelby Jackson (23:21.26) were 11th and 12th.
Shelby Werner placed 20th in a time of 23:55.72, while
Sierra Gray was 24th in a time of 24:05.43. Gabrielle Hill was 33rd in a time of 24:28.58.
As a team, the Southern women scored 36 total points. Central Missouri was second with 51 points, while Truman, Drury, Missouri S&T, Rockhurst, William Jewell, Mckendree and Lincoln round out the women's team scores.
Both teams will be back in action on October 22 as the Lions will compete at the 2016 MIAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Lindenwood University.
