Five Score In Double-Figures As Lions Take Out Western, 94-71

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team had five score in double-figures and the Lions took out visiting Missouri Western today 94-71 on Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. 

Southern (12-9, 9-6 MIAA) was led by Taevaunn Prince who had 19 points and nine rebounds. Isaac Kreuer had 16 points and six rebounds, hile DJ Feitl, Taylor Luster and Bruce Marshall scored ten each. Marshall added three blocks, while Luster dished out seven assists. 

Western (6-15, 4-11 MIAA) had four score in double-figures, led by 14 points from Aaron Emmanuel. 

The Griffons led 20-19 at the 7:52 mark of the first half, but a three-pointer from Austin Wright gave Southern a 22-20 lead and sparked an 11-0 run that culminated in a free throw from Luster to give Southern a 30-20 lead with 5:39 left. The Southern lead was just six at the 3:40 mark, but the Lions quickly pushed that up to 16 (44-28) after a pair of free throws from Charlie Brown capped off a 12-2 run. The Lions led 44-30 at the break. 

The Southern lead grew to 22 (57-35) after a three pointer from Luster with 10:50 left, and a three from Feitl with 7:08 left in the game made the lead 31 (72-41). The lead reached 34 after a layup from made the score 80-46 with four minutes to go. 

The Lions shot 57 percent from the field and 44 percent from the three point line. Southern made 78 percent of its free throws, while limiting the Griffons to just 37 percent from the field and 38 percent from long-range. The Lions had a 38-28 advantage in the paint and a 38-33 advantage in rebounds. Southern assisted on 20 of the 35 made baskets in the game. 

The Lions will be back in action on Feb. 3 when Southern travels to Emporia State. Tip off is slated for 7:30 pm.
