Bartlesville, Okla. - The Missouri Southern Golf Team finished day one in seventh place after 36 holes at the 17th Annual NSU Men's Fall Classic at the Hillcrest Golf Club.
The Lions carded a 301 in the first round as junior
Taylor Lansford led the way with 3-over 74, while senior
Ethan Hutcheson carded a 5-over 76. Lansford led the way again in the afternoon 18 holes as he again carded a 74, while junior
Cameron Hamilton and sophomore
Connor Neil shot a 75 as the Lions finished with a 302 for a two round total of 603.
On the day Lansford finished tied for 12th with a 148 (74-74), while Hamilton carded a 151 (76-75) for a share of 22nd. Hutcheson finished in a tie for 36th with a two round total of 153 (75-78), Neil finished in a tie for 48th with a total of 156 (81-75) and freshman
Tripper Jensen carded a two round total of 158 (76-82) for a share of 55th.
"It wasn't our best effort today," said head coach
Mike Wheeler. "Too many bogies and missed putts in both rounds. We need to shoot 290 or better tomorrow to salvage some momentum moving forward."
Henderson State leads the way in the team standings with a 589 (296-293) followed by Arkansas Tech which carded a two round total of 591 (299-292) and Southwestern Oklahoma rounds out the top three with a 594 (296-298). Host Northeastern State is tied for fourth, and is the tops among MIAA teams, with a 597 (298-299). Southern was in seventh followed by Washburn in eighth with a total of 604 (302-302), Missouri Western is in eleventh with a two round total of 613 (304-310), Southwest Baptist is in 13th with a 627 (318-309) and Fort Hays State rounds out the MIAA teams in 15th with a 660 (321-339).
The Lions will tee off in the final round at the Hillcrest Golf Club tomorrow morning at 8am. Live scoring link can be found at mssulions.com
