LeaderboardMonkey Island, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern golf team sits in second place after the first two rounds of the MSSU Fall Invitational held today at Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island, Okla., in the first MIAA points event of the season.
The Lions shot a 294 as a team in round one and improved by five strokes in the second round to shoot a 289 and sit in second place with a 36-hole score of 583. Southern is five strokes behind first-place Central Missouri (578) and five in front of the third place team Central Oklahoma (588). Lindenwood is in fourth place followed by Washburn, Northeastern State, Missouri Western, Lincoln, Nebraska-Kearney, Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays to round out the team scores.
"We played well as a team today, everyone contributed. To play with UCM and UCO in the last groups tomorrow is a challenge that we will embrace," said head coach
Mike Wheeler.
Leading the way for Southern is senior
Ethan Hutcheson as he shot a one-under 71 in round one and a two-under 70 in round two to finish three-under for the day and in second place by himself, two strokes behind the leader, Alex Springer from Central Missouri.
Taylor Lansford is tied for fourth place overall as the junior shot a one-under 71 and an even-par 72 to finish at 143 on the day.
Connor Neil is tied for 18th at 151, while
Cameron Hamilton is tied for 23rd at 152. Tripper Jenson is tied for 41st with a 158 to round out the team scores.
The Lions took five individuals to the event.
Aaron Shoemaker and
Tristan Haltom are tied at 39th with a 157, while
Jake Badovinac is 47th with a 151.
Bradley Jumper is tied for 48th with a 162, while
Brandon Coale is in 50th with a 163.
The Lions will play one final round of 18 holes tomorrow to wrap up the tournament.
