Box Score Joplin, Mo. -- The 17th ranked Missouri Southern baseball program picked up its third-straight complete-game victory from its pitching staff and the Lions won 4-0 today against visiting Lincoln.
Southern (31-9, 22-5 MIAA) saw a brilliant performance from Tyler Burgess as the senior went nine innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight, while walking one.
The Lions scored two runs in the first after Southern opened the game with three-straight singles. Jon Davis and Richie Gorski singled, while Chris Hoffman followed up with an RBI single, scoring Davis. Tee Helsel added an RBI single to score Gorski.
Southern scored two more on an RBI single from Axel Johnson, scoring Robbe Ewing. Helsel later scored on a balk.
Lincoln (3-38, 1-26 MIAA) got a good start from its starter Trevor Schneiders as he went eight innings and struck out eight.
Gorskie went 2-4 with a run scored. Davis, Hoffman, Jesse Rall, Helsel, Johnson and Ewing all had a hit each. Hoffman, Helsel and Johnson drove in a run each.
The Lions and Blue Tigers will finish off the series tomorrow afternoon with a single, nine-inning game at 1 pm. The official dedication of the field will be tomorrow. Festivities will begin at 12:30 pm with the unveiling of the donor wall. There will also be a ribbon cutting, ceremonial first pitches and the naming of the field.
Southern will also honor its 11 seniors tomorrow as part of Senior Day. Those festivities will be after the game is over.
