Golf in Third After 36 Holes at Washburn Invite

Topeka, Kan. - Missouri Southern's golf team sits in third place following the first day of the Washburn Invitational at the Topeka Country Club.

"Everyone contributed today, 36 holes is a grind. The boys maintained their focus and the results show it. The final 18 holes tomorrow will be an opportunity to move a step closer to a berth at regionals," said Coach Wheeler.

The Lions with a two round 595 sit just two strokes behind second place and host Washburn. Central Missouri leads the way after the first day with a two round total of 566. In fourth place is Central Oklahoma with 596 and a stroke back of the Bronchos is Northeastern State at 597. Missouri Western (608), Lindenwood (621), Fort Hays State (627), Nebraska-Kearney (630), Iowa Western CC (633), Southwest Baptist (635), and Lincoln (658) round out the 12 team field.

Southern is paced by senior Ryan Buerk and junior Ethan Hutcheson, who are tied for 7th with a two round 145, eight strokes behind day one leader Zach Tucker (137) from Northeastern State. Sophomore Taylor Lansford carded a two round 152 (75-77) and is currently tied for 24th. Sophomore Trae Fairchild and freshman Chas Goines round out the team scores for the Lions as they carded a first day total of 156 and 158, respectively.

The final 18 holes will start at 9am with tee times every nine minutes. The Lions will be in the last pairing with Central Missouri and host Washburn.
