Box Score Emporia, Kan. -- The 19th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team fell 11-1 in non-conference action today at Emporia State.
The Lions (22-6) scored first when Jon Davis doubled home Tee Helsel in the top of the second inning to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
Emporia (20-7), however, answered back with a six-run third inning. Three unearned runs in the inning led to the six spot.
The Hornets added two more in the fourth, a single run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to invoke the run-rule and end the game.
Davis went 2-3 with an RBI, while Chad Shannon, Chris Hoffman, Jesse Rall and Axel Johnson had a hit each.
Sean Goostree started and went two and two thirds of an inning to suffer his first loss of the season, moving his record to 2-1. Chad Worman pitched four and a third, while Derek Mann threw in the eighth.
The Lions will be back in action this weekend as Southern plays host to Washburn. The teams will tangle in a single, nine-inning game on Thursday at 6 pm, while playing a double-header at 1 pm on Friday. A single, nine-inning game on Saturday at noon will conclude the series.
