Golf Sits in Third After First Round at Broncho Inv. by RCB Bank

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Missouri Southern Golf sits in third place after day one of the Broncho Invite presented by RCB Bank.

The Lions trail MIAA schools Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri. The Bronchos, playing on their home course, shot a 286 2-under team score for the first day while the Mules finished day one with a 291 3-over team score. Southern finished with a 294, the second lowest team round of the season, on the 7,255 yard par 72 Gillardia Country Club course in northwest Oklahoma City. The Lions are ahead of MIAA schools Northeastern State (298), Washburn (303), Missouri Western (312), Fort Hays State (317), Southwest Baptist (322), and Lincoln (330).

"Today's round at Gaillardia was really a good team effort.  I'm proud of their resolve and playing tomorrow with the 2 top teams in our region is a challenge we welcome. My boys are ready," said Coach Wheeler.

Sophomore Taylor Lansford leads the Lions with a 1-under 71, as he came away with five birdies on the day including four on the back nine, and is tied for sixth. Freshman Chas Goines is second on the team and tied for 16th with a 1-over 73 as he birdied holes four, six, and twelve on the day. Senior Ryan Buerk sits tied for 23rd at 2-over 74 while sinking birdie putts on six, seven, and thirteen. Sophomore Trae Fairchild is tied for 37th at 4-over 76 after getting par on the first seven holes. Freshman Connor Neil is tied for 42nd one stroke back of Fairchild at 5-over 77 sinking birdie putts on holes three and six.

Lansford leads four NCAA D-I golfers, he is one stroke ahead of University of Oklahoma's Cody Taylor and two strokes ahead of Oklahoma State's Stratton Nolen and OU's Griffin Pierce, while finishing 10 strokes better than OSU's Sam Stevens.

Sophomore Phillip Roller, playing as an individual, finished day one tied for 82nd at 10-over 82. Roller competed at the Broncho Invite last season finishing with a three round total of 249 and tied for 52nd.
