Golf Moves Up Four Spots in Round 2 Sit in 10th After Day 1

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions Golf Team was the biggest mover in round two as they improved four spots to 10th place headed into final day of Holiday Inn Express Classic at the St. Joseph Country Club.

The Lions sit alone in 10th after carding the fourth best team score in round two of a 296, 12 strokes better than their first round score. Freshman Tristan Haltom was the biggest mover for Southern as he improved 24 spots into a share of 28th with a second round 1-over, 72. On the day Haltom carded an 8-over 150 (78-72). Senior Ethan Hutcheson remained in a tie for 17th following a two round 6-over 148 (74-74). Sophomore Connor Neil moved up 17 spots into a share of 47th as he improved his first round score of 79 by four strokes (75) for a two round total of 154. Junior Taylor Lansford also moved up 17 spots carding a second round of 75, seven strokes better than first round of 82. Junior Cameron Hamilton dropped 35 spots with a second round 85.

"There was a lot of wind on the course today," said head coach Mike Wheeler. "That and the fast greens made for a tough course today. We had better execution and effort in the second round but we will need to shoot 290 Tuesday as a team to have a respectful finish in this regional competition".

Central Oklahoma (589, 294-295) moved up one spot to take a one shot lead over Winona State (590, 291-299). Arkansas Tech moved up one spot into third with a two round total of 591 (294-297) while Central Missouri moved into fourth with a day one total of 592 (297-295). Lindenwood rounds out the top five with a two round score of 593 (297-296). The RiverHawks of Northeastern State dropped two spots into sixth place with a 596 (296-300) and are followed by Washburn who moved up three spots to finish with a 598 (304-294), the Ichabods carded the lowest team score in round two. Southwestern Oklahoma State and Henderson State stayed in their same spots at eighth and ninth with a 599 (300-299) and 603 (301-302), respectively. The Lions round out the top 10 moving up four spots with a two round total of 604 (308-296). Minnesota State-Mankato dropped one spot into 11th with a day one total of 605 (3004-301) and Nebraska-Kearney moved up one spot into a share of 12th with a 609 (306-303) with Harding 609 (305-304). Missouri Western dropped seven spots into 13th with a two round score of 613 (299-314) followed by Augustana in 14th at 614 (314-300), Concordia - St. Paul in 15th 628 (308-320), and Upper Iowa in 17th at 633 (318-315). Fort Hays State (635, 325-310), Southwest Baptist (644, 314-330), and Lincoln (665, 327-338) round out the 20 team field.

In the MIAA points standings UCO is in first followed by UCM, Lindenwood, Northeastern State, Washburn, Southern, Nebraska-Kearney, Missouri Western, Fort Hays State, Southwest Baptist, and Lincoln.

The third and final round at the 6,582 yard par 71 St. Joseph Country Club Course will tee off Tuesday morning at 8am.
