Lions Drop 2-0 Decision to Northeastern State

Tahlequah, Okla. – The Missouri Southern Lions (2-3-1, 0-2-0 MIAA) dropped their second MIAA road match of the season 2-0 to the Northeastern State RiverHawks (3-2-0, 1-1-0 MIAA) on Sunday afternoon.

Northeastern State struck first in the 41st minute as McKenzie Musella shot a laser past senior goalkeeper Beth Hammons off a rebound to give the RiverHawks the 1-0 lead heading into halftime. In the half NSU outshot the Lions 12-5 (6-2 shots on goal). Hammons faced 12 shots in the first half and came away with five saves.

The Lions created their chances in the second half, as they took four shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net. Freshman Hannah Bomar led the way for the Green & Gold with three shots, two on goal, and senior Kelsey Haist added two shots, both on goal.

NSU added a second goal in the 59th minute as McKenna Jetton connected on a header off a cross from inside the box.

For the game the RiverHawks out shot Southern 22-11, 9-6 shots on goal.

Hammons played all 90 minutes in the net allowing the two goals and coming up with seven saves, while NSU's Jordan Woodruff came up with six saves against the 11 shots faced.

The Lions will be back in action next Thursday as they host the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at 7pm from Hal Bodon Field.
