Box Score Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern soccer fell on senior day 2-1 to Northeastern State on Saturday afternoon at Hal Bodon Field.
The Lions (5-9-2, 3-8-1 MIAA) got off to a fast start scoring in the first minute as junior Karley Thomas connected on passes from junior Michaela Altvater and senior Kelsey Haist.
Northeastern State (7-9-0, 4-8-0 MIAA) answered in the 27th minute as Julia Mathis finished off a cross by McKenna Jetton to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1. NSU would add a second goal in the 71st minute as Rachel Gleason connected on a hearder off a corner kick.
Coach Alese Woolard and the Missouri Southern Athletics Department honored this years seniors, Nga Vo, Casey Vitale, Haist, and Beth Hammons at halftime.
Freshman Hanna Johnson got the start in the net for the Lions and came up with a save. Sophomore Hannah Cook played the second half in the net and had three saves on the day.
Southern will be back in action on Friday October 31 as they host Southwest Baptist. Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm.
