Baseball Lions split double-header with Pittsburg State

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team split a double-header today against Pittsburg State, winning the opener 4-1, but dropping the nightcap 5-2. 

Southern (8-5, 4-5 MIAA) got a strong pitching performance from Drew Noble in game one, as he went six and a third of the seven-inning game, striking out four and allowing just one run. Bo Bergen and Stephen Vaughn struck out a batter each in relief as Vaughn picked up a save. 

Will Wagner went 1-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in, while Nick Doughty had a hit and two runs scored. 

After going down 1-0 in the first, Southern fought back with a pair of runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. 

In game two, Pittsburg State (6-3, 4-3 MIAA) scored two runs in the third and added another in the sevent and two more insurance runs in the ninth. 

Southern scored runs in thr fourth and eighth. Wagner scored two runs and went 2-4, while Thomas Wilson drove in a run with a 2-4 performance and Shaun Hoover had an RBI, as well. 

The Lions had a game scheduled for tomorrow against Nebraska-Kearney, but that game has been cancelled.
