Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Topeka, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team split a double-header at Washburn today, winning game one 14-0, but falling 11-10 in game two.

Southern (20-14, 13-13 MIAA) had a pair of stellar performances in game one as starter David Reese went the distance and held the Ichabods to just one hit, while striking out three and walking none.

Offensively, Sam Ryan had the fourth-most RBIs in a single game in Lions history as the junior went 3-4 with seven RBIs and two runs scored. He had two home runs in the game.

Southern scored three runs in the third and six in the fourth. The Lions added two more in the fifth and a pair of runs in the seventh.

Ryan hit the first of his two home runs in the third, this one a three-run bomb to right center. MJ Sartin started the scoring in the fourth with a two-RBI double scoring Tee Helsel and Cullen Baxter. Michael McCoy was hit by a pitch driving in a run, and Ryan walked behind him, driving in another. Luke Acosta scored on a passed ball and McCoy would score the last run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk.

Ryan added another three-run home run in the fifth inning for the Lions, and Acosta would add an RBI triple in the seventh.

McCoy and Acosta both had three hits in the game, while Acosta scored four times and drove in one. McCoy scored twice and drove in two. Sartin had a pair of hits, while driving in two and scoring twice.

In game two, the Lions had a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, but Washburn scored four runs in the inning to go up 8-6. Southern added a run in the seventh to get to within one at 8-7, but Washburn added two more to go up 10-7 heading into the ninth.

The Lions fought back and scored three in the top of the ninth to tie the game, but the Ichabods scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

Sartin went 3-5 in the game with three RBIs and a run scored. Will Wagner went 2-4 with three runs scored, while Helsel had a pair of hits and two runs scored. Dane Kolkmeyer had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Ryan added another home run in the game.

Ethan Stenger started for the Lions and went five and two thirds of an inning, while Bo Bergen threw the final two and a third innings.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday with a pair of Sonic Trophy Series games at Pittsburg State. First pitch in game one is slated for 3 pm.
