Jefferson City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team split a pair of games today at Lincoln, winning 8-1 in the opener, but a late grand slam in the nightcap lifted the Blue Tigers over Southern 10-9. 

Southern (27-17, 18-16 MIAA) got a big start from Cody Griebling in the opener as the senior picked up his eighth win of the season, going all seven innings with seven strikeouts, just one walk and one run allowed. It is his eighth complete game of the year, and it puts him one off of the school record held by Tim Doss (1978), Barry Jenkins (1978 and 1979) and Gary Bradshaw (1982). 

Lincoln (6-36, 6-27 MIAA) picked up a come-from-behind victory in the second game of the day when Kyle Henke's grand slam lifted the Blue Tigers to the win. 

In game one, Southern scored runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth to cruise to the win. Luke Acosta went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored. Michael McCoy went 3-4 with an RBI, while MJ Sartin drove in a pair and scored once. Both Tee Helsel and Will Wagner added an RBI each. 

In game two, starter David Reese pitched seven innings and allowed four earned runs, while striking out five after pitching two innings on Wednesday. He was settled with the no-decision. Grant Conrad was saddled with the loss. 

Acosta had another strong game in the nightcap, going 2-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sam Ryan was 3-5 with an RBI, while Cullen Baxter went 2-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a run driven in. Jim Gilkerson scored twice. 

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow morning, playing a double-header beginning at 10 am.
