Southern takes out Central Methodist 21-7

Joplin, Mo. --  The Missouri Southern baseball team scored in every inning but the first and took out visiting Central Methodist in non-conference action today 21-7 at Joe Becker Stadium. 

Southern (25-16) picked up a strong start from Jesse Kinzey as he picked up his second win of the season going seven innings and striking out five, while allowing four earned runs. Michael Mudd pitched a scoreless eighth, while Michael McCoy finished up the game in the ninth. 

Central Methodist Scored five runs over the final three innings. The Eagles had two hits and three RBIs from both Dustin Ray and Alfredo Souffront. 

The Lions picked up a huge offensive game from McCoy as the junior tied a Southern school record with five hits, while driving in four and scoring three times. Luke Acosta had a pair of hits, four RBIs, a home run and two runs scored, while Sam Ryan went 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Jim Gilkerson went 2-2 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs, while Thomas Wilson scored three times. 

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening with a non-conference matchup with Northeastern State at 6 pm from Joe Becker Stadium.
