No. 11 Lions drop a pair at Missouri Western

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

St. Joseph, Mo. -- The No. 11 ranked Missouri Southern baseball team dropped a pair of games today at Missouri Western as the Griffons defeated the Lions 2-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two.

The Lions' (15-4, 8-3 MIAA) bats went cold in the double-header and although senior right hander Ryan Wheat was outstanding in game one, going six innings and throwing just 66 pitches, two un-earned runs settled him with the loss. He struck out three and walked one.

MJ Sartin had a hit and a run in the game, while Cullen Baxter and Sam Ryan had a hit each. Ryan drove in the run.

Western (11-6, 4-3 MIAA) starter Brandon Simmons went the distance, allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out three and walking three.

In game two, Western scored a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings en route to the win. Western's Nick Jurado threw all seven, striking out five.

David Reese started and went four and two thirds of an inning in game two. He struck out one and allowed just two earned runs. Grant Conrad threw the final inning and a third. Five separate Lions had a hit in the game.

The Lions and Griffons will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon with a nine-inning game at noon.
