Lions finish eighth at Midwestern State Invite

Wichita Falls, Texas -- The Missouri Southern golf team moved from 11th to 8th after the final day of the 2011 Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club. 

Southern was led by the duo of senior Jamie Voegeli and junior Andy Hogenmiller as both finished with a three-round 228 for the tournament. Voegeli shot a 73 in the final 18 holes today. Senior Stephen Boyd shot a three-round 229, while freshman Alec Wickey shot a 236 and junior Jared Essary finished with a 240. 

The Lions moved up three spots in the team standings to eighth today after shooting 308 as a team. Oklahoma Christian took home the team title finishing eight strokes in front of second-place Newman. Northeastern State was third, followed by Midwestern State, Cameron, Texas A&M Commerce, St. Mary's, Southern, West Texas A&M, and Dallas Baptist to round out the top ten. 

Newman's Ed Herzog won the individual title, five strokes in front of Northeastern State's Casey Nelson. 

The Lions will be back in action next week, heading to Dallas to take part in the Dallas Baptist Invitational.
