Lions erase 11 point halftime deficit and take out Truman, 83-70

Joplin, Mo. -- The 14th ranked Missouri Southern Lions erased an 11-point halftime deficit and out scored Truman State by 24 in the second half, while Skyler Bowlin broke the Southern career three-point record in an 83-70 win in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Southern (15-1, 11-1  MIAA) was out rebounded 24-9 in the first half and Truman's (5-11, 3-9 MIAA) Ethan Freeman had 15 at the break. But the Lions responded and out rebounded Truman 20-16 in the second half.

The Lions were led in scoring by Skyler Bowlin and Jason Adams with 17 points each, with Bowlin going 2-7 from three-point land and hitting his 180th three pointer, passing Keith Allen for first place overall in Southern history. He also moved into fifth place all-time in points at Southern, passing Matt Olson (95-99) with 1,405 in his career.

Adams was 6-8 from the free-throw line, while Marquis Addison scored 16 and Keane Thomann scored 13.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by 14 points from Tom Norton as four players scored in double-figures. Freeman finished with 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Truman led by as many as 14 twice in the first half, and eventually took an 11-point lead (38-27) into the locker room.

Southern came out on fire in the second half and in just over six minutes had the 11-point deficit erased and the game tied at 42 on a jumper from Thomann. The Lions picked up their first lead (54-52) with 9:32 left in the game after a layup from Kevin Hinsey.

The teams would trade points as a three from Alex Henderson of Truman tied the game at 63 with five minutes left. A three from Adams the next time down the court gave the Lions the lead for good.

The Lions turned the ball over just four times in the first half and none in the second half, setting school records in the process. The Lions forced 20 Truman turnovers and scored 23 points off of the miscues.

Southern will be back in action this Wednesday with a trip to Central Missouri to take on the Mules at 7:30 pm in the Multipurpose Building.
