St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Southern
Lions traveled to St. Joseph, Mo. Thursday night to take on the
Griffons of Missouri Western State University in a MIAA match.
The Lions battled the Griffons to a 0-0 score at the end of the
first half out shooting Missouri Western 9-5. Southern took
the early lead in the second half at the 61:27 mark of the match
off of sophomore forward Megan Stueve's shot off a rebound in
front of Missouri Western's goal. The Griffons then
turned around and evened the score at 1-1 at the 62:25 mark of the
match.
The Lions out shot Missouri Western 21-12 in double overtime as
they moved their record to 2-4-2 overall, and 2-2-2 in MIAA play,
while junior goalkeeper Randi Russell recorded six saves.
Southern will next be in action Saturday at Northwest Missouri
State University in Maryville, Mo, at 11:30am. The Lions will
be back home at Hal Bodon Field on October 7th to face the Bearcats
of Southwest Baptist University at 7pm.
