Camdenton, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern golf
team placed second in the first MIAA points event of the season,
placing just ten strokes behind Central Missouri at the Lincoln
University Invite at Old Kinderhook GC.
Senior Jamie Voegeli continued his solid play and shot a
second-round 74 and finished in second place overall, just six
strokes off the lead. Junior Andy Hogenmiller tied for eighth with
a two-day 149, while junior Jared Essary was tied for 17th with a
151. Freshman Alec Wickey shot a 153 and senior Seve Smith
rebounded to shoot the Lions' low round of the day, a 73, and
finished with a two-day total of 154. Freshman Jamie Newman,
playing as the Lions' individual, also finished with a
154.
Central Missouri won the team title with a two-day 584, ten
strokes in front of the Lions' 594. Southwest Baptist was third,
followed by Washburn and Fort Hays to round out the top five.
Lindenwood was sixth, followed by Missouri Western, Lincoln,
Truman, Pittsburg State, McKendree and Lincoln's 'b'
squad.
Central's Matt Miller won the individual title with a two-day
139 and Voegeli was second with a 145.
The Lions will be back in action next week when they travel to
Broken Arrow, Okla. for the Northeastern State Invite.
