Lions golf in second just one stroke off of lead at Lincoln Invite

Camdenton, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is just one stroke behind first place Washburn and tied with Central Missouri for second place after day one of the Lincoln University Invite at Old Kinderhook Golf Club. 

The event is the fist MIAA points event of the season for the Lions. 

Senior Jamie Voegeli is tied for second, just three strokes off of the lead after shooting an even par 71 on day one. Junior Andy Hogenmiller shot a 73 and is tied for seventh place, while freshman Alec Wickey and junior Jared Essary are tied for 20th with a 76. Freshman Jamie Newman shot a 77, while senior Seve Smith had a first-round 81. 

Washburn shot a 295 as a team and lead both Southern and Central Missouri by one stroke after the first round. Fort Hays and Lindenwood round out the top five, while Southwest Baptist, Lincoln, Pittsburg State, McKendree, Missouri Western, Truman and Lincoln's 'B' team round out the rest of the team scores. 

The Lions will finish the tournament tomorrow.
