Joplin, Mo. -- Heavy rain and lightning has
forced the suspension of game one of a scheduled doubleheader
between the Missouri Southern Lions and Southwest Baptist Bearcats
Saturday afternooon (May 1) at Joe Becker Stadium. The game
was halted in the top of the fifth inning with SBU batting with
runners at first and second with no outs and the Lions on top
3-0.
The suspended game with resume at noon tomorrow (May 2),
followed by a pair of seven-inning contests. Senior Day
festivities, which were scheduled to take place between games
today, will now be held between games tomorrow.
The Lions jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the
first on RBI singles by Jacob Taylor and Michael Zurmehly.
Taylor then scored the Lions' third run of the inning on an
error. Joe Lincoln is 2-of-2 at the plate for
Southern.
Garrett Groom got the start and was solid on the mound for the
Lions through his four plus innings of work. Groom
struck out three and allowed four hits.
