Rain forces suspension of Lions' Baseball doubleheader with SBU

Joplin, Mo. -- Heavy rain and lightning has forced the suspension of game one of a scheduled doubleheader between the Missouri Southern Lions and Southwest Baptist Bearcats Saturday afternooon (May 1) at Joe Becker Stadium.  The game was halted in the top of the fifth inning with SBU batting with runners at first and second with no outs and the Lions on top 3-0.

The suspended game with resume at noon tomorrow (May 2), followed by a pair of seven-inning contests.  Senior Day festivities, which were scheduled to take place between games today, will now be held between games tomorrow.

The Lions jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Jacob Taylor and Michael Zurmehly.  Taylor then scored the Lions' third run of the inning on an error.  Joe Lincoln is 2-of-2 at the plate for Southern.

Garrett Groom got the start and was solid on the mound for the Lions through his four plus innings of work.  Groom struck out three and allowed four hits.
