Box Score Joplin, Mo. -- Skyler Bowlin scored a
season-high 23 points on 5-7 shooting from long range and the
Missouri Southern men's basketball team secured a spot in the 2010
MIAA Basketball Tournament with a 77-54 win over Washburn tonight
in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Southern (15-9, 9-8 MIAA) has won seven of the last eight games
against the Ichabods in the series. Jason Adams scored 18 points,
while Keane Thomann had 11 and Mariun Price scored 10.
Washburn (13-12, 7-11 MIAA) was led in scoring by Logan Stutz
with 16 points. William McNeil had 13.
Skyler Bowlin scored 11 points early, going 3-4 from long range,
as the Lions raced to 27-14 lead with just under eight minutes to
go in the first half. Bowlin hit two more threes, including a late
long range bucket with 18 seconds left in the half and the Lions
went into the locker room with a 40-26 first-half lead.
Southern started the second half with a bang as Crittendon hit
Adams for an alley-oop pass on the Lions opening possession. The
lead was 22 after a three pointer from Adams made the score 58-36
with a little more than 13 minutes left in the second half.
The lead was 21 (68-47) after a pair of free throws from Bowlin
with 7:23 left.
The Lions shot 49 percent from the field and forced 17 Washburn
turnovers, scoring 26 points on the miscues. The Lions trailed just
once, 3-0, after an opening three from the Ichabods.
Southern will be back in action this weekend when the Lions
finish off the home slate with a 3:30 game against Fort Hays. The
game will be senior night for the Lions. Updated MIAA standings can
