Kirksville, Mo. -- The Truman
Bulldogs scored three goals in the second half, including two by
Olivia Hayes, to break open a one-goal game and defeat the Missouri
Southern Lions 4-0 Thursday afternoon (Sept. 24) in Kirksville, Mo.
The Bulldogs (5-2-2, 4-1 MIAA) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th
minute of the first half when Megan Buri blasted a shot into the
top right of the net off an assist from Isabel Gaeta.
Truman added to the lead seven minutes into the second half when
Hayes scored off of two passes from Beth Bystrom and Katie Hinrichs
and put it into the corner of the net for a two-goal lead.
Hayes then recorded her second goal after dribbling through
three defenders and scoring at the 59:05 mark.
Katie Reuck tallied the Bulldogs fourth goal by scoring from the
right side on feeds from Danielle Hill and Riley Mahn in the 68th
minute of play.
Jentri White led the Lions (2-7, 0-5 MIAA) with three shots
attempts, with one on-goal. Mahn had a match-high six shots
for the Bulldogs.
Candis Clark, in her first career match at goalkeeper, made six
saves for the Lions.
Jayne Grisham played the first 67:52 in the net for the Bulldogs
and recorded two saves, while Alison Taylor played the final 22:08
and made one save.
The Lions will return home on Saturday night (Sept. 26) and host
Missouri Western at 7 p.m.
