Joplin, Mo. -- The Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks
scored a goal eight minutes before halftime and went on to a 2-0
victory over the Missouri Southern Lions Saturday afternoon (Sept.
19) at Hal Bodon Field.
The first goal for the Mavericks was the result of an own-goal
after a corner kick in the 37th minute of action.
The Mavericks (5-3, 4-0 MIAA) maintained their one-goal edge
until Jessica Powers gave UNO an insurance goal off a pass from
Nicole Baier at the 79:09 point of the second half.
The Lions (2-6, 0-4 MIAA) kept it close despite being out-shot
19-6 overall and 7-2 on-goal.
Randi Russell helped the Lions stay in the match by making five
saves.
Lauren Fox stopped two shots for UNO.
The Lions will next be at Truman on Thursday afternoon (Sept.
24) at 4 p.m. in Kirksville, Mo.
