Joplin, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State
Bearcats snapped a scoreless tie with a goal in the 75th minute to
defeat the Missouri Southern Lions 1-0 Thursday night (Sept. 17) at
Hal Bodon Field.
Amanda Bundrant scored the only goal of the match off an assist
from Sara Meidlinger at the 75:39 mark of the second half.
Bundrant took a shot from five yards away in the box that
bounced off the post and into the net.
Despite just one goal being scored, both teams had plenty of
opportunities. The Bearcats held a 15-11 edge in shots
overall and an 8-6 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Stephanie Heines led the Lions (2-5, 0-3 MIAA) with three
shots. Andrea Tritz and Kelsey Sanders each had four shots to
pace the Bearcats (6-1, 2-1 MIAA).
Randi Russell stopped seven shots for the Lions, while Kira
Lazenby recorded six saves for the Bearcats.
The Lions will remain at home and host Nebraska-Omaha on
Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19). The match is scheduled for
noon at Hal Bodon Field.
