St. Joseph, Mo. -- The
Missouri Western Griffons scored the match's only goal four minutes
into the second half to defeat the Missouri Southern Lions 1-0
Wednesday night (Oct. 21) in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Griffons' score came on a breakaway goal by Abby Widrig at the
49:56 mark of the second half.
The Griffons out-shot the Lions 18-3 overall but only 4-3
on-goal.
Goalkeepers Randi Russell and Jenna Weis each made three saves in
the match.
Jentri White, Michelle Dimza and Cortney Sanders each recorded a
shot for the Lions (4-11, 2-9 MIAA).
The Griffons (6-9-1, 4-7-1 MIAA) were led by Widrig's match-high
five shot attempts.
The Lions will now return home to host MIAA-leading Truman State on
Friday afternoon (Oct. 23) beginning at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs have
won 10 straight and are currently the No. 5-ranked squad in the
South Central Region.
