Joplin, Mo. -- With the match scoreless at
the half, Jayme Ross struck for three second half goals to lead the
Southwest Baptist Bearcats to a 4-0 win over the Missouri Southern
Lions Thursday night (Oct. 15). The match was played at Fred
Hughes Stadium due to wet conditions at Hal Bodon Field.
Taylor Vick got the Bearcats (6-6-1, 4-6 MIAA) on the board four
minutes into the second half off a corner kick from inside the box.
Two minutes later Ross scored the first of her three straight
goals for a two-goal lead.
Ross then found a free ball inside the box and headed it in for
a 3-0 Bearcat advantage at the 65:36 mark.
Ross finished the scoring by putting in a shot from the center
of the box in the 75th minute.
SBU out-shot the Lions 13-5 overall and 9-2 on-goal.
Vick had a match-high four shots while five different Lions each
recorded a shot-attempt.
Randi Russell made five saves for the Lions (4-9, 2-7 MIAA),
while SBU goalkeeper Megan Link recorded two saves.
The Lions' next home match will also be played at Fred Hughes
Stadium on Saturday night (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. against Central
Missouri.
