Hannah Poyner joined the Lions as an assistant volleyball coach ahead of the 2025 season. 

Poynor came to Southern after spending the 2024 campaign at Kent State. As an assistant coach with the Golden Flashes, she was responsible for scouting and logistics.  

Prior to Kent State, Poynor was an assistant coach at Randolph-Macon College. She helped guide the Yellow Jackets to a 19-10 record in 2023, an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament finals appearance and had three players earn all-conference selections including outside hitter Grace Parker who was named AVCA All-American. Poynor was responsible for logistics, recruiting, summer camps, and opponent scouting at Randolph-Macon College. 

In 2022, Poynor was the Director of Volleyball Operations at Virginia Commonwealth University and was responsible for taking care of all the behind-the-scenes needs of the squad including logistics, stat tracking, and team travel. 

Poynor earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Sign Language from Lamar University in May 2020 and completed a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a focus on Higher Education from University of Texas at Arlington in December 2021.

A Frisco, Texas, native, Poyner has a four-year-old Bernedoodle named Keaton.
