Prior to Southern
Candrl prepped at Owensville High School under her father, Matt Candrl, competing in both track and cross country. She earned three letters in track and four in cross country. A three-time All-Conference selection in cross country, Candrl was also a three-time All-Conference honoree in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and pole vault on the track. She earned All-State honors twice in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and pole vault. Candrl holds the Owensville school records in both the pole vault and the 100-meter hurdles, as well as the conference records in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and pole vault. Additionally, she was a three-time state qualifier in cross country.

Katie, the daughter of Karin and Matt Candrl, is undecided on a major at Southern.
