Jay Grainger is in his first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Green and Gold.
Grainger previously was a student-athlete at both Southwest Baptist University and Dallas Baptist.
Most recently, Grainger was a graduate student working on a masters in exercise physiology at Dallas Baptist, while finishing his fifth year of cross country and track eligibility. While competing for DBU, Grainger was a scoring runner for the third-place team at the 2021 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships. He also competed at the 2021 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Cross Country Championships.
Prior to DBU, Grainger ran at Southwest Baptist while earning a degree in exercise science. A four-year member of the track and field and cross country teams at SBU, Grainger competed at the 2017 MIAA Cross Country Championships, as well as the 2019 and 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Cross Country Championships. Grainger was the SBU honoree for the 2020 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award for the 2020 cross country season. On the track, Grainger qualified for the 10,000 meter run finals at the 2021 GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. While at SBU, he ran a 5,000 meter personal best of 16:08 and 10,000 meter personal best of 33:51 during the 2021 outdoor track season.
Grainger is a native of Dexter, Mo. and earned a degree in exercise science from SBU.
