Prior to Southern
Strange prepped at Lakeland High School, where he competed in both basketball and track for the Vikings. A seven-time All-State thrower and three-time state champion, he won the discus twice and the javelin once. He was also a sectional, district, and conference champion in both the javelin and discus as a junior and senior. In basketball, Strange earned first-team All-Conference honors twice.

Garrett, the son of Diane and David Strange, is undecided on his major at Southern.
