Prior to Southern
Cole prepped at Neosho High School, where he competed in both cross country and track and field for the Wildcats. As a senior, he was selected to run in the Festival of Miles. He earned All-Conference honors in cross country and three times in track, along with All-State recognition in both sports during his senior year. Cole was also named first-team All-Area in cross country and track as a senior and was nominated for Athlete of the Year in Missouri for cross country. His personal bests include 1:57 in the 800 meters, 4:15 in the 1,600 meters, 4:18 in the mile, 9:27 in the 3,200 meters, and 15:32 in the 5,000 meters.
