Kansas City, Mo. - For the second time in three weeks, the Missouri Southern track & field teams have swept the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Kirsten Womack was the women's field athlete of the week, and
Peyton Barton earned it on the men's side. This marks Barton's fourth time winning the award during the outdoor season, 10th total of the year as he was named Indoor Field Athlete of the Week six times.
Kirsten Womack was a member of the throws crew that traveled to Baldwin City, Kansas to compete at the ZK Invite hosted by Baker University. She took 1st in the Discus Throw, recording an NCAA qualifying throw and personal record of 48.25m. That mark ranks 7th in MSSU history. Additionally, Womack placed 4th in the Shot Put with a toss of 13.57m.
Peyton Barton also competed at the ZK Invite on Saturday, bringing home two victories in his two events. He won the Hammer Throw with an NCAA qualifying mark of 66.03m. That mark would rank at the top of the MIAA and second in NCAA DII, but Barton's throw earlier in the month sits above Saturday's mark. In the Discus Throw, Barton's NCAA qualifying toss of 53.44m earned him 1st place.
In last week's USTFCCCA National Ratings, the men's team was ranked #4 and the women's team upped a spot to #10. Up next for the teams will be the MIAA Championships, taking place Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5. Hosted by Northwest Missouri, the meet will take place in Maryville, Missouri.
