Emporia, Kan. - The Missouri Southern softball program finished the Emporia State 5-State Classic splitting decisions against Minnesota State and Illinois - Springfield today.
Against Minnesota State (7-2) the Lions got on the board in the fourth inning as Ashlynn Williams singled home Yazmin Vargas making it 3-1, The Mavericks would win the game 8-1 after scoring five runs in the sixth.

Kara Amos went 5.2 innings in relief for the Lions striking out four Mavericks.

Southern (6-4) finished the tournament off with a 5-3 win over Illinois - Springfield (5-9).Â

Josie Tofpi started the scoring off in the third inning with an RBI double before Williams singled home Amos and Southern jumped to a 2-0 lead after three innings. Williams picked up another RBI this time off a double scoring Adrianna Young, and the Lions added two more in the fifth inning making it 5-2.Â

In the circle Abby Atkin went the full seven innings striking out three Prairie Stars and picked up her second win of the season. Amos, Tofpi and Williams finished 2-of-3 from the plate with each scoring once as well.
Next up for the Lions is the Bronchos of UCO in Edmond, Okla for a MIAA double-header with first pitch scheduled for 3pm Tuesday.
