Joplin, Mo. – Senior right fielder Abi Corbett had three stolen bases on the day and became the all-time stolen base leader for MSSU, but the Missouri Southern softball team lost both ends of a double-header to Lindenwood inside the Pat Lipira Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.
 
Game One
Lindenwood (25-19, 11-11 MIAA) jumped out to a commanding 11-0 lead at the completion of three innings, which included five singles throughout the stretch.
 
Southern (22-26, 9-13 MIAA) battled back as Ashley Caldarella knocked in two RBIs on a double to left center to open the scoring in the fourth.
 
MSSU added two more runs in the fifth to cut the lead to seven and it would end there with the final score reading 12-5.
 
Elizabeth Windsor went 2-for-4 from the plate to lead the team while scoring a run. Five other Lions recorded a hit and Corbett scored two of the five runs without a hit.
 
Game Two
After LWU took a 3-0 lead after the top of the first, Corbett beat out a ball played by the third baseman and followed with the record-breaking stolen base to put pressure on Lindenwood's defense. Corbett has recorded 104 stolen bases for her career.
 
In the second, Emilee Meyer put the ball in play to allow Caldarella to make it home and reach first on a fielder's choice. This run put Southern down by two.
 
LWU responded with a groundout-RBI in the third and then tacked on two more in the sixth to eventually take the second game 6-3.
 
Six players for Missouri Southern had a hit, including Erika Lutgen who registered two RBIs on a single through the right side into right field in the seventh.
 
Next Up
The Lions hit the road for their final four games of the regular season, making the first stop in Edmond, Oklahoma for a meeting with Central Oklahoma this Friday at 2:00 pm before heading to Tahlequah to face Northwestern State to wrap things up on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
