Lions Conclude Opening Weekend With Third-Straight Split In Durant

Durant, Okla. – The Missouri Southern softball team recorded another split in its two games on the day, leading off with a 8-5 victory over Oklahoma Christian followed by a one-run loss (4-3) to Cameron University to wrap up the Southeastern Regional Invitational Sunday afternoon.

Game 1
In the first game of the day, Missouri Southern came out ready to play, holding Oklahoma Christian to zero runs in the first three innings and then coming out in the top of the fourth inning with a huge five-run spurt. The Lions hit the peak when Erika Lutgen launched a shot to center field for a two-run double.

OCU began to make a run in the fifth as the Eagles loaded the bases with one out. They put up a four spot to be down only by two.

Lutgen had a huge game with two doubles and two RBIs, while scoring two runs on the base pads. Abi Corbett went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot, knocking in an RBI and scoring a run with two stolen bases in the team's third win over the weekend.

Game 2
After winning game one, the Lions started game two down by three early after Cameron (4-2) registered a two-run first and then tacked on one in the second.

Then in the fourth inning the team responded with a two-run home run to right-center field from catcher Kaycee Hodgson to knot the game up at three apiece. It was her first collegiate home run, while going 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored.

The Aggies came back with a run in the fifth and held MSSU in last two innings for the win.

Second baseman Lexi Ferrari went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including two doubles and a walk.  Corbett and Shelby Friend combined for 4-for-8 line for four singles in the loss.
