Vincent Kiprop nearly won a National Championship today, but he ended up with the best-ever finish by a Lion as he finished second in the 2015 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship held at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Kiprop, a native of Kericho, Kenya, traversed the 10k course in a time of 29:33.62, seven seconds faster than his previous best time at the 2015 Central Region Championships two weeks ago. Kiprop navigated the tight pack and the cold conditions to finish nine seconds behind the eventual National Champion, Alfred Chelanga of Shorter University, a freshman himself.

With the finish, Kiprop earns All-American honors from both the NCAA, as well as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
