Christian Salecich is in his first year as a student assistant coach with the Lions after serving last year as the team's starting point guard.
In 2011-12, Salecich helped the Lions to a 22-8 record and a second-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament. The team was ranked from start to finish and climbed as high as the No. 1 ranking, the highest-ever ranking for a Southern basketball team. He started in 21-30 games he played in last year, and finished the season with 6.3 points per game, 4.1 assists per game and 2.0 rebounds per contest.
Prior to Southern, Saleich played two seasons at Division I Saint Louis University where as a freshman at SLU, Salecich appeared in all 36 games and started 31 times. He averaged 6.4 ppg and 2.3 rpg with 64 assists and 23 steals, while averaging 28.3 minutes per game. As a sophomore, Salecich played in 31 games, starting four, while averaging 14.4 minutes per game. He scored 2.3 points per game and pulled down 1.1 boards per contest.
A native of Gold Coast Austraila, Salecich prepped at the Australian Institute of Sport where he averaged 12 ppg while shooting 43 percent from 3-point range and 89 percent from the free-throw line for AIS, the elite academy in Canberra, Australia. He played on the 2009 Australia U-19 National team at the FIBA World U-19 Championships in New Zealand, helping the team finish pool play undefeated and reaching the bronze-medal game. He ended the U-19 tournament with 38 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and six steals while shooting 40.9 percent from 3-point range.
