Cross Country Coaches Nationwide Band Together for the Joplin Initative

Joplin, Mo. – After the historic tornado that hit Joplin on May 22, 2011, a group of cross country coaches got together at their convention and decided they wanted to do something to help the city and community of Joplin, Mo. Out of that, came the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Joplin Initiative.

Division II cross country programs across the country are coming together with the hopes to pledge nearly $150,000 to the effort. The coaches association hopes that each Division II cross country program can raise money that will, in turn, be given to both the Joplin R-VIII School District, as well as the Missouri Southern Foundation Tornado Relief Fund.
When Joplin and MSSU host the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on November 17 of this year, the organization will present a check to both the school district and foundation at the Closing Ceremonies of the event.
