Women's Cross Country picked to finish first in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team has been picked to finish first in the 2011 MIAA Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll as announced by the league office today.

The poll, conducted by the league coaches, has Southern tied with Pittsburg State atop the poll as both teams received the same amount of first place votes (3) and total points (37). Southern was second at the conference meet last year and qualified for the national meet with a third place finish at Regionals. The Lions eventually placed 16th at the national meet.

Northwest Missouri and Truman tied for third place, while Southwest Baptist rounded out the top five at fifth. Fort Hays was sixth, followed by Central Missouri, Emporia State, and Lincoln.

Southern opens up the 2011 schedule with a meet at the University of Arkansas on September 2. The complete poll is listed below.
