Lions' Volleyball falls 3-0 in non-conference action to Pittsburg State

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped a three set match tonight in non-conference action to Pittsburg State. Individual set scores were 23-25, 18-25 and 21-25. 

The Lions (4-15) were led offensively by nine kills each from Callie Whetstone and Payton Graves. Whetstone hit .727 in the match and added two blocks. Katie Politte had eight kills and nine digs, while Abby Finder added 33 assists. Mikayla Avery and Danielle Severns had six digs each. 

Pitt (10-10) was led offensively by 16 kills and a .355 attack average from Crystal Whitten. 

Pitt led 13-9 and again at 16-13, but the Lions fought back to tie the set at 19. The Lions got to within one at 24-23, before a kill from Maggie Highberger ended the set. 

Set two featured five ties and five lead changes, but that was all within the first eight points. Pitt took a 12-11 lead and didn't look back. Set three was all Pitt as the Gorillas hit .327 in the set. 

The Lions will be back in action this Friday, traveling to  Emporia State for a 7 pm first serve.
