Lions defeat Union, 3-0, before power outage suspends second match with Southern Arkansas

Monticello, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team got a 3-0 win over Union (Tenn.) in the first match of the day at the Arkansas-Monticello tournament today, but a campus-wide power outage caused the postponement of the second match against Southern Arkansas and the match will be resumed from the point of stoppage in the third set, November 3 at Missouri Southern. A time has yet to be set for the match.

In the Lions (3-4) first match of the day, Southern dominated its opponent as they defeated Union by the scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21. The Lions' defense was strong in the match as big blocks dominated the match.

In Southern's second match of the day, the Lions faced off with Southern Arkansas (6-3). The Lady Muleriders took sets one and two by scores of 25-23 and 28-26, and led 7-5 in the third set, before the power went out.

Katie Politte led all hitters with 11 kills in the match, while adding 11 digs, as well. Sydney Wheeler had 17 assists in the match, playing in place of an injured Abby Finder, who suffered an ankle injury in the match with Union.

The match with the Lady Muleriders will be resumed from the point of stoppage with SAU leading 7-5 in the third set on November 3 in Joplin. A start time has yet to be determined.
