Volleyball drops final two at Pitt State Invite

Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped its final two matches today in the last day of the Pittsburg State Invite, dropping a 3-1 match to Southeastern Oklahoma State and 3-0 to Rockhurst. 

In the first set against SEOSU (2-1) the Lions won game one 25-21, but dropped the second set 16-25. Southern had a 20-16 lead in the third set, forcing a timeout for the Storm, but SEOSU faught back and scored nine of the next 11 points to win the set 25-22. The Storm would win the fourth set 25-19. 

Katie Politte led the Lions with 18 kills and nine digs in the match, while Nai Montano had ten kills and Abby Finder added 35 assists. Danielle Severns and Sydney Wheeler had 15 and 11 digs, respectively. 

Rockhurst (4-0) continued its unbeaten streak in the tournament by taking out the Lions in straight sets. Individual set scores were 6-25, 13-25, and 14-25. 

Politte had eight kills and four digs in the match, while Payton Graves and Montano added five kills each. Mikayla Avery had eight digs, while Wheeler added six of her own. 

The Lions will be back in action next weekend when Southern will travel to the Arkansas-Monticello Tournament. The Lions will face off with Kentucky Wesleyan and Arkansas-Monticello on day one, while taking on Union and Southern Arkansas on day two.
