Southern volleyball signs Pierce City's Krishna Merriman to an NLI
Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern volleyball coach Trish Knight has announced the signing of Krishna Merriman to a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Southern and begin class in the fall of 2013.
Merriman, a 6-1 middle blocker/outside hitter is a native of Wentworth, Mo. where she prepped at Pierce City High School. A three-year starter for the Eagles and coach Allison Davis, Merriman was an All-State selection this season after being named the Spring River Valley Conference Player of the Year. She helped the Eagles to a district title and a 22-10 overall record. They won a District and Sectional Championship and finished the season in the State Quarterfinals. She was also named first-team All-Conference, All-District and All-Region.
As a junior, she was a first-team All-Conference and All-District selection, while being named honorable mention All-Region. Also a standout on the basketball court, as well as a member of the track and field team, Merriman was a first-team All-conference selection in basketball as a junior. She was part of a state champion 4x200m relay team this past year, and placed sixth in the 400m.
The daughter of Buffy and Rick Merriman, Krishna is undecided on her future major at Southern.
"We are very excited about adding Krishna to our roster," Knight said. She is very athletic and competitive in nature. The really nice thing about her is not only is she a versatile attacker, but she can pass and play defense as well. I am really looking forward to seeing what she can bring to this team."
