Southern volleyball falls 3-0 at home to Emporia State

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell in three sets tonight to visiting Emporia State. Individual set scores were 17-25, 17-25 and 10-25. 

The Lions (0-20, 0-9 MIAA) were led offensively by freshman Callie Whetstone with 10 kills and a .217 attack average. Abby Finder and Sydney Potts split time at setter, and had 14 and 10 assists, respectively. Danielle Severns started her first game as a libero and led the team with 14 digs. 

Emporia (14-6, 4-3 MIAA) hit .311 as a team and the Hornets were led by eight kills, 17 assists and a .583 attack average from Katie Deutschmann. Sydney Hartman had 18 assists, while Meg Schwartz led the team with 15 digs. 

The Lions will be back in action on Monday (Oct. 15) evening when they play host to Arkansas-Fort Smith at 6 pm in Young Gym.
